The Aldbury

Three caned doors along the bottom, three open bays along the top, and a flat run of timber across the whole width for the television to sit on. The open bays are there so a set-top box or a soundbar can breathe and still answer its remote — cane looks better than a glass front and does not swallow an infrared signal the way a solid door does. It stands on tapered legs, so the floor carries on underneath and the unit does not read as a block.

Two numbers decide this one. The cabinet has to fit the alcove, and your television's FRAME — not its advertised screen size — has to fit the cabinet. A 55-inch set is roughly 124cm across its frame, which leaves a hand's width either side here. Pieces are built and finished by hand, so allow up to 2cm either way. Materials & Construction

Mango wood and plywood with a teak veneer, in a walnut finish. The door fronts are panelled in woven cane.

Timber carcass in a walnut finish on tapered legs, with three woven cane door fronts.

Arrives fully assembled. Nothing to build — the legs are fitted at the workshop.

Cable management

The three bays across the top are open at the back, so a box, a games console or a soundbar sits in the run with its cables dropping straight out behind and its remote sensor facing the room. That is why the open bays are there rather than more cupboard: a solid door blocks an infrared remote and traps the heat coming off an amplifier, and cane would pass the signal but not the heat. Open is the honest answer to both — the cupboards behind the caned doors are for the things you would rather not look at.
